The Best Wedding Celebrants in Newcastle & the Hunter Valley (According To One Extremely Biased Celebrant)

If you’ve started searching for a wedding celebrant in Newcastle or the Hunter Valley, you’ve probably realised a few things pretty quickly:

  1. There are a lot of celebrants.

  2. Everyone says they’re “fun and relaxed.”

  3. At least one man owns a fedora (guilty).

And honestly? Choosing a celebrant can feel weirdly hard.

Because unlike choosing a venue or a photographer, you’re basically choosing:

  • the person standing closest to you during one of the biggest moments of your life

  • the vibe-setter for your entire wedding

  • and the person responsible for making sure your ceremony doesn’t feel like a corporate team-building exercise

No pressure.

So instead of pretending this is a completely objective “Top 10 Wedding Celebrants in Newcastle and The Hunter Valley” article written by an impartial wedding journalist (it is not), I thought I’d do something slightly different.

Here are the best wedding celebrants in Newcastle & the Hunter Valley.

According to me.

A Newcastle wedding celebrant.

Who is absolutely on the list.

Repeatedly.

This is for couples who:

  • hate forced romance

  • don’t want a ceremony full of clichés

  • physically recoil when someone says “soulmate journey”

  • and want guests laughing, crying, and actually paying attention

Honestly? This is probably where I fit best.

My whole approach is creating ceremonies that sound like actual humans and feel like someone who genuinely knows you is telling your story.

Not stiff. Not over-scripted. Not robotic.

Just relaxed, story-driven ceremonies that feel personal and real.

Especially for Newcastle and Hunter Valley couples who want something modern without losing the meaningful bits.

I know, but how could you not include this guy at least twice?!

This celebrant still makes grandparents cry.

In a good way.

A lot of couples come to me saying:

“We want it fun… but not too much.”

Which is fair.

You still want emotional moments, heartfelt storytelling and a ceremony your family connects with.

You just don’t want it to feel like a Year 10 drama performance or a legal seminar.

The sweet spot is warm, funny, relaxed and emotionally grounded.

That’s always the goal.

Ok, sure, you are probably seeing a trend in this article now but I promise I'll switch it up for the next one.

Hunter Valley weddings are a very specific thing.

They’re not just weddings. They’re weekends.

People travel up. Everyone settles into wineries. Lunch turns into cocktails. Cocktails turn into espresso martinis. Someone’s uncle disappears by 9:30pm.

The ceremony needs to match that energy.

Whether you’re getting married at:

  • Redleaf Wollombi

  • Adams Peak

  • Bimbadgen

  • Circa 1876

  • Krinklewood

  • Peterson House

  • or somewhere completely different

…the best Hunter Valley wedding ceremonies feel relaxed, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to sit through.

That’s especially important when your guests have already been wine tasting since Friday.

PSYCH. Sorry.

Some couples want huge dance floors, giant wedding parties, champagne towers, late-night cheeseburgers, and an MC introducing speeches while trying to maintain order amongst absolute chaos

Respectfully:I love these weddings.

I’m also an MC, which means I can carry the same energy from the ceremony into the reception without it suddenly feeling like the school principal has taken over halfway through the night.

WHAT CAN'T THIS MAN DO?!

Not every couple wants a giant performance.

Some people want intimate weddings, smaller guest lists, quieter moments and ceremonies that still feel meaningful without becoming theatrical.

That’s honestly one of my favourite things about modern weddings in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley right now.

People are doing weddings their own way.

And the ceremony should reflect that.

So… How Do You Actually Choose a Wedding Celebrant?

Here’s the honest answer:

Find someone who feels like your people.

Not just someone with good reviews, someone cheap or someone available.

But someone whose energy matches the kind of wedding you actually want.

If you’re planning a relaxed wedding in Newcastle or the Hunter Valley and want a ceremony that sounds like you, guests genuinely engaged, something funny without becoming stand-up comedy and moments that still hit emotionally

…then there’s a very good chance we’d get along.

And if not? That’s genuinely okay too.

There are heaps of great celebrants around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.

(But obviously I’m still putting myself at number one (and 2-5.)
